Geographic Location
Atimonan hugs the Lamon Bay coastline approximately 175 kilometers south of Manila. It is traversed by the Daang Maharlika and a safe 45-minute drive from the Provincial Capital of Lucena. It can be reached either via the historic Zigzag Road or thru the Diversion Road.
Atimonan is bounded on the north by Lamon Bay; on the east by Plaridel; on the south by Unisan and on the west by Pagbilao.
Area
Atimonan has a total land area of 24,475 hectares representing 2% of the total land area of Quezon Province. It has forty two (42) barangays, Â thirty eight (38) rural and four (4) urban barangays. The poblacion consisting of four (4) urban barangays has an area of approximately fifty-three (53) hectares.
Topography
It is situated on a rolling terrain with slope ranging from 0-3 & to 18% and above. The highest point of elevation is located at Quezon National Forest Park at 426.8 m or 1,400 ft above sea level.
Climate
Climate of the municipality is of the third type as per Classification of PAG-ASA. Due to its location on the southern portion of the province’s mountain ranges, there is no pronounced dry and wet season. It is relatively dry from April to November and wet during the rest of the year.
Soil
As per Soil Report of the Bureau of Soils for the province of Quezon, the soil of Atimonan are the Bolinao Clay Loam, Bantay Clay Loam, Siain Silt Loam and the Catanuan Clay Loam.
Existing Land Uses
As per survey, general land uses of the municipality is divided into agricultural, built-up uses, forest land and other land uses comprising of waterways and road networks.
Built-up areas include those areas utilized for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional. It comprises 466.56 hectares or approximately 1.91% of the total land area.
Agricultural lands which constituted approximately 21,599 hectares or 88.25% are predominantly planted with coconut, rice, fruits and vegetables and other crops.
